Welcome to the Department of Veterinary Medicine

Welcome to the Department of Veterinary Medicine. As a part of the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources (AGNR), we are dedicated to protecting and improving the health of the people and animals of Maryland, the United States, and the global community.

VetMed is housed in the Avrum Gudelsky Veterinary Center at the University of Maryland, College Park campus. The department provides a wide range of courses in animal and public health to both under-graduate and graduate students in addition to opportunities for research, extension, and continuing education. The Veterinary Medical Sciences Graduate Program offers Master of Science (MS) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees in the academic fields of veterinary medical, biomedical, and comparative medical sciences.

With the help of the Avrum Gudelsky Veterinary Center’s state-of-the-art technology and facilities, our outstanding faculty, postdoctoral fellows, and graduate students are consistently making new discoveries in the areas of virology, bacteriology, immunology, epidemiology, and vaccinology. In addition, our central location in College Park, Maryland allows us active collaboration with several prominent research centers including NIH, USDA, and FDA.

We are committed to providing excellent educational programs, conducting innovative research, and serving as a catalyst for the dissemination of new knowledge in fields related to infectious diseases with global impact.
