Vet Med Annual Departmental Awards Winners Announced

On Monday, May 9, 2022, the Department of Veterinary Medicine hosted its annual departmental awards ceremony where Mustapha Dahmani, Alyssa Harris, Halema Baxter (pictured left-right), and Ashley Strickland (not pictured) were presented with awards. 

Mustapha Dahmani received the Excellence in Postdoctoral Research Award which recognizes exemplary contributions as a postdoctoral scholar in the department.

Alyssa Harris received the David Bruce Snyder Award for Avian Molecular Epidemiology. Dr. David Snyder was a faculty member at the Maryland Campus of the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine (VMCVM) until his passing in 1994. To honor his contribution to poultry disease research and diagnostics, his family, friends, and associates established the David Bruce Snyder Memorial Award. This award was presented by Nancy Snyder, Dr. Snyder’s wife at the time of his passing.

Halema Baxter received the Staff Excellence Award which recognizes a staff member in the Department of Veterinary Medicine who consistently makes outstanding contributions in support of faculty, staff, students, administrators, and all those served by the department.

Ashley Strickland received the Avrum Gudelsky Veterinary Graduate Student Award for Exemplary Research in Veterinary Medicine. Established by Homer and Martha Gudelsky in memory of their son, Avrum, this award, reflecting Avrum’s fondness for animals and their well-being, is presented for exemplary graduate research in veterinary medicine.
