Congratulations to Dr. Seth Dickey's Lab who just received a grant through NIH/NIAID

Our lab recently received a grant to support our research into antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) as alternatives to traditional antibiotics, addressing the critical issue of antimicrobial resistance. This funding will enable us to explore a newly discovered AMP family with unique biosynthetic gene clusters (BGCs) found across diverse bacteria. By utilizing molecular biology techniques, bacterial genetic approaches, and biochemical assays, we aim to understand the biosynthetic and regulatory mechanisms of this novel BGC. Our research will pave the way for future biochemical studies, genome mining, bioengineering, and strategies to optimize AMP production for therapeutic development.
