The University of Maryland's Department of Veterinary Medicine recently welcomed a distinguished delegation led by Dr. Wen-Jane Tu, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Agriculture, Taiwan. The visit, which also included colleagues from the Agricultural Technology Research Institute, Taiwan, aimed to foster collaboration and exchange knowledge in veterinary science and research.
As part of the visit, Dr. Daniel Nelson, Dr. Yanjin Zhang, and Dr. Xiaoping Zhu from the UMD Veterinary Medicine Department presented their latest research findings. Dr. Nelson discussed the development of bacteriophage endolysins for agricultural applications, offering innovative solutions to combat bacterial infections in livestock. Dr. Zhang focused on swine viral diseases, covering their current status, control, and prevention. Dr. Zhu highlighted a one-health mucosal vaccine approach designed to prevent respiratory diseases, emphasizing the importance of integrated health strategies.
The visit marked a significant step toward strengthening ties between the two institutions and promoting global collaboration in veterinary science.
