Urmil Dave, a researcher in the Nelson laboratory, has been chosen as a fellow in the American Society for Microbiology (ASM) Future Leaders Mentorship Fellowship (FMLF) program. This prestigious selection marks a significant milestone in Urmil's career.

The ASM FMLF program is designed as a 2-year initiative aimed at doctoral students from historically excluded communities in the microbial sciences. The program pairs participants with experts across varied career sectors, with the overarching goal of equipping them for leadership roles within the ASM community. Additionally, it facilitates connections with ASM student local chapters and broader scientific communities.

As an ASM FMLF Fellow, Urmil will engage in a robust 2-year program that offers a blend of formal and informal experiences. These experiences are tailored to enhance skills crucial for leadership and professional development. The program includes opportunities for forming collaborations and participating in group and one-on-one structured mentoring and career training sessions facilitated by ASM mentors and external partners.

One of the highlights of Urmil's fellowship includes complimentary registration and accommodation for the ASM Microbe 2024 meeting, scheduled to take place in Atlanta, Georgia. In addition, he will receive a stipend of $500 to offset travel and other associated expenses.
