As Chair of the Department of Veterinary Medicine and Associate Dean of the Maryland Campus of the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine, I take great pride in our growth and our national recognition as a “one of a kind” regional college of veterinary medicine.
By establishing interdisciplinary teams within several departments at both campuses, our research programs continue to grow and develop. Over two-thirds of our current budget is research-related and is provided by the federal government through extramural grants. In addition, our unit has significantly increased the opportunities available to students by offering financial aid, and by providing high quality research training using cutting edge technology.
In the past decade, we have recruited top faculty and students from around the world, and have revised our graduate programs to better prepare our young scientists for the challenges of the 21st century. In doing so, we have established a successful record of integrating education, cutting edge research, and collaboration with various governmental agencies.
Our goal is to continue on this path of excellence in all facets of research, to increase funding for our students and our programs, and to enhance our educational component by offering additional courses that will challenge our students and increase their knowledge in animal and human health. We are pleased to share our accomplishments with you and welcome your involvement in our educational, research, and outreach activities.
