Dr. Utpal Pal Recognized as an MPower Professor
Dr. Utpal Pal has been honored as a 2025 MPower Professor, a prestigious recognition awarded by the University of Maryland Strategic Partnership: MPowering the State (MPower). This distinction highlights Dr. Pal’s exceptional contributions to science, service, and career development, particularly in the field of tick-borne infections, with a primary focus on Lyme disease. With over 100 publications in esteemed academic journals and books, Dr. Pal has provided professional services to federal agencies, including the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services and the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and has a long-term collaboration with Merck & Co. to develop novel anti-tick vaccines. He earned his PhD and MS in zoology from the University of Calcutta and completed postdoctoral training at the Yale University School of Medicine. As an MPower Professor, Dr. Pal will receive $150,000 over three years to further his groundbreaking research and collaborative initiatives.
